Solid rocket motor is the main or one of the main propulsion systems of a launch vehicle.
A single component test stand system is used to test solid rocket motors on ground before they are declared flight worthy.
The different parameters of rocket motor like Axial thrust, Chamber pressure,
Skin temperature, Strain etc are evaluated by testing them on ground under static conditions.
This test stand is swing bench type.
It will support the motor in horizontal condition while measuring the axial thrust during firing.
This test stand will support the rocket motor and freely transmit the thrust developed by the rocket motor to the thrust measurement system.
This single component test stand system is having critical subassemblies like axial thrust measurement system, saddle support system and A-Frames. These critical subassemblies are to be analyzed to confirm the designed safety margins.
The analysis is done by using computer analysis package ANSYS 5.4.
The finite analysis models are created for Axial thrust measurement system,
saddle support system and A-Frame. Necessary boundary conditions and loads are applied to them.
The static analysis carried out on these finite element models for different combinations of loading.
From the investigation of results of Finite Element Method analysis,
it has been found out that the stresses and deformations for the extreme load cases are within the limits.
This analysis confirms the designed safety margins.
